Cranberry Growing Degree-Days
The maps below show the degree day accumulations with weather data taken from 46 weather stations across Wisconsin. Currently, there will be a time lag between the creation and posting of each map and the present date. We are working on getting this information as timely as possible. Note: cranberry growing degree-days are calculated with base threshold 41 deg F, and upper threshold 85 deg F. Sparganothis degree-days are calculated with base threshold 50 deg F and upper threshold 86 deg F. And cranberry fruitworm degree-days are calculated with a base threshold 44 deg F and upper threshold of 87 deg F.

To determine which Sparganothis life stage correlates with the current degree-day, refer to the six benchmarks for Sparganothis.
Additionally, in collaboration with a citizen science group of Wisconsin cranberry growers, we are working on correlating growing degree days (DD) with cranberry phenology. Citizen science means that data is collected according to a standardized protocol by means of public participation. Daily high and low temperatures collected at the cranberry plant canopy are used to calculate growing degree days beginning on March 1. The mean cranberry growing degree days (provided by growers located in Juneau, Wood and Monroe Counties) will be updated weekly.
